Fernanda Balata.

Political Economist. Strategist. Writer.

Fernanda Balata is a Brazilian-British political economist and writer exploring how extreme wealth, climate breakdown, and power shape everyday life. Her work involves the development of original frameworks to analyse shifts in power and identify new pathways for institutional and political repair.

She is the lead author of G20 at a Crossroads, a cross-continental collaborative report examining the G20’s role in inequality, crisis response, and structural reform, and a contributor to the Extreme Wealth Line Initiative, where she advances the idea of extreme wealth as a systemic harm.

She designed the UK Blue New Deal, shaping it through a collaborative process with community groups, trade unions, local authorities, and civil society, during her leadership of the New Economics Foundation’s Centre for Coastal Economies. She also played core roles in the UK Green New Deal, and in the design of the UK Climate Assembly.
